NODO URUGUAYO
El Año Internacional de la Astronomía 2009, declarado así por las Naciones Unidas, representa una celebración global de la Astronomía y de su contribución a la sociedad, a la cultura, y al desarrollo de la humanidad. Su objetivo principal es motivar a los ciudadanos de todo el mundo a replantearse su lugar en el Universo a través de todo un camino de descubrimientos que se inició hace ya 400 años, cuando Galileo observó por primera vez el cielo con un telescopio. Actividades repartidas por todo el globo terráqueo pretenden estimular el interés por la Astronomía y la Ciencia en general; desde su influencia en nuestras vidas diarias hasta cómo el conocimiento científico puede contribuir a un mundo más libre e igualitario. Más de 140 naciones y 50 organizaciones en todo el mundo coordinadas por la Unión Astronómica Internacional y la UNESCO trabajan actualmente con este objetivo. Es la mayor red astronómica jamás construida con el objetivo de poner esta cien cia al alcance de todos los habitantes del planeta. En Uruguay se constituyó un Nodo integrado por diversas instituciones y personas vinculadas a la Astronomía que coordina todas las actividades de nuestro país contando con el auspicio de destacadas Instituciones y con el apoyo de la Agencia Nacional de Investigación e Innovación (ANII).

The International Year of Astronomy 2009, declared so by the United Nations, represents a global celebration of Astronomy and of its contribution to society, culture and development of humanity. Its main objective is to encourage all the citizens of the world to redefine their place in the Universe through a whole path of discoveries which were started 400 years ago when Galileo observed the - sky with a telescope for the first time. The activities being held around the globe are intended to stimulate the interest for Astronomy and Science in general; from its influence in our daily lives to how the scientific knowledge can contribute to a more equal and free world. More than 140 Nations and 50 Organizations around the world, coordinated by the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO are currently working with this aim in mind. It is the largest astronomical network ever built with the aim of putting this science at the reach of all the inhabitants of this planet. In Uruguay a Node was established, and it is conformed by several institutions and people related to Astronomy. Counting with the support of outstanding Institutions and the ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation), the node coordinates all the activities held in our country.
