Si nuestros ojos fuesen lo suficientemente sensitivos, la galaxia espiral más cercana a nosotros, la galaxia de Andrómeda (también se le llama Messier 31) se vería ocho veces más grande que la Luna llena en el cielo. Extendiéndose 150,000 años-luz, Messier 31 tiene una forma parecida a la Vía Láctea con estrellas viejas amarillas en el centro y estrellas jóvenes azules en los brazos espirales.

Andromeda Galaxy
2.5 Million light years

The closest spiral galaxy to us, the Andromeda Galaxy (also called Messier 31) would appear eight times the size of the full Moon in the sky if our eyes were sensitive enough. Spanning 150,000 light years, Messier 31 has a shape very much like the Milky Way with older, yellow stars in the centre and younger, blue stars in the spiral arms.
