Nebulosa de la Tarántula
180.000 años-luz

Esta imagen de la nebulosa de la Tarántula y el área a su alrededor se tomó con un telescopio óptico de 2.2 metros en La Silla, Chile. El nombre de la nebulosa viene de su apariencia de telaraña, que se puede ver en la parte superior central de la imagen. Una red de filamentos que se encuentran ligeramente hacia la parte inferior derecha alberga la famosa supernova SN 1987A. La nebulosa de la Tarántula está localizada en la Gran Nube de Magallanes, una galaxia pequeña a unos 180,000 años-luz de la Vía Láctea.

Tarantula Nebula
180.000 light-years

This image of the Tarantula Nebula and the area around it was taken with a 2.2-metre optical telescope in La Silla, Chile. The spider-web look gives the nebula its name, which is seen in the upper-centre of the image. Slightly to the lower-right, a web of filaments harbours the famous supernova SN 1987A. The Tarantula Nebula is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small galaxy only about 180 000 light-years from the Milky Way.
