Nebulosa del Cangrejo

La nebulosa del Cangrejo es una remanente de supernova registrada por los astrónomos chinos y árabes en el 1054. En su pico habría sido más brillante que todas las estrellas y planetas del cielo nocturno. En la estela de la explosión quedó una nebulosa en expansión y una estrella de neutrones llamado un pulsar en el centro. Esta imagen se realizó con un trío de instrumentos espaciales - el Telescopio Espacial Spitzer (rojo), El Telescopio Espacial Hubble (verde y azul oscuro) y el Observatorio de Rayos X Chandra (azul claro).

Crab Nebula
6.500 light years

The Crab Nebula is the remnant of a supernova explosion recorded by Chinese and Arab astronomers in 1054. At its peak it would have been brighter than every star and planet in the night sky. In its wake the explosion left us the ever-expanding nebula, and a rapidly spinning neutron star called a pulsar at its centre. This image was made by a trio of space - based instruments - the Spitzer Space Telescope (red), the Hubble Space Telescope (green and dark blue) and the Chandra X-ray Observatory (light blue).
