Nebulosa del Capullo

Espectacularmente bella, aún bajo los estándares de las nebulosas, la nebulosa del Capullo brilla de color rosado en la luz del gas de hidrógeno ionizado por una estrella grande en el centro. Esta estrella se formó hace unos 100,000 años, y su luz ultravioleta ha tallado esta nebulosa de la enorme nube oscura de gas y polvo. Estamos viendo la nebulosa por un agujero en el lado de esta nube.

Cocoon Nebula
4.000 light years

Strikingly beautiful, even by nebula standards, the Cocoon Nebula glows pink in the light of hydrogen gas ionised by the large star at centre. This star formed about 100,000 years ago, and its ultraviolet light has carved this nebula out of a vast, dark cloud of gas and dust. We are looking at the nebula through a hole in the side of this cloud.
