Nebulosa Cabeza de Caballo

Localizada en la constelación de Orión (el cazador), la Cabeza de Caballo es parte de una nube densa de gas en frente de una nebulosa que tiene formación estelar activa. La Cabeza de Caballo está iluminada por la estrella brillante Sigma Orionis, que está localizada en la parte superior de la imagen. Esta fotografía excepcional fue tomada usando el telescopio de 0.9 metros de la Fundación Nacional de Ciencias en Kitt Peak, Arizona.

Horsehead Nebula
1.500 light-years

Located in the constellation of Orion (the hunter), the Horsehead is part of a dense cloud of gas in front of an active star-forming nebula. The Horsehead is illuminated by the bright star Sigma Orionis, which is located above the top of the image. This exceptional picture was taken using the National Science Foundation’s 0.9-meter telescope on Kitt Peak in Arizona.
