Normalmente una mezcla de tonalidades marrón y rojo, esta imagen de Júpiter tomada con luz en el infrarrojo cercano ha sido codificada para mostrar la altura de las nubes, desde grandes alturas (blanco), pasando por tonos azules hasta las alturas menores (rojo). La Gran Mancha Roja y su vecina la Mancha Roja Júnior tienen las alturas mayores, así que aparecen blancas aquí. Observadores utilizaron el telescopio Géminis Norte en Hawaii para capturar esta vista.

Jupiter
35 light minutes

Normally a mix of brown and red hues, this image of Jupiter made in near- infrared light has been colour-coded to show cloud height, from high altitude (white) through blue to low altitude (red). The great red spot and its neighbour red spot Junior top out at the highest altitudes, so appear white here. Observers used the Gemini north telescope in Hawaii to capture this view.
