Nacido en Munich, Alemania, Wolf creció en Canadá, Europa y los Estados Unidos, donde estudió primeramente en la Universidad de California, Berkeley, luego en Alemania con Otto Steinert en Essen. He has exhibited widely, including at the Venice Biennale for Architecture; Aperture Gallery, New York; Museum Centre Vapriikki, Tampere, Finland; Museum for Work, Hamburg, Germany; Hong Kong Shenzhen Biennial; and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago. Wolf has also been selected for prizes such as the World Press Photo award competition in 2005 and 2010, and was shortlisted for the Prix Pictet photography prize.
