El Yelmo de Tor es un ejemplo raro de una estrella Wolf-Rayet. Este tipo de estrella tiene unas 40 veces la masa del Sol, son jóvenes y extremadamente brillantes. Generan unos vientos que salen a millones de kilómetros por hora. Como las estrellas Wolf-Rayet queman su combustible tan brillantemente y arrojan tanto material, los científicos piensan que representan una etapa breve antes que la estrella explote como una supernova.

Thor’s Helmet
15.000 light-years
Thor’s Helmet is a rare example of a Wolf-Rayet star. Around 40 times the mass of our Sun, this type of star is young and extremely bright. It generates a wind that blasts outwards from the star at millions of kilometres per hour. Because Wolf-Rayet stars burn so brightly and shed so much material, scientists think they represent a brief stage before the star explodes as a supernova.
