Nebulosa Hélice

La Hélice es una nebulosa planetaria, la envoltura de gas brillante que arroja una estrella moribunda que tiene masa parecida a la del Sol. La Hélice parece una forma de rosquilla sencilla vista desde la Tierra, pero hay evidencia nueva que sugiere que la Hélice consiste en dos discos gaseosos que están casi perpendiculares uno del otro. Esta estructura compleja podría ser el resultado de una estrella acompañante que no se ve. Esta vista fue creada combinando diferentes imágenes tomadas por el Telescopio Espacial Hubble (NASA/ESA) y el Observatorio Interamericano del Cerro Tololo en Chile (CTIO).

Helix Nebula

The Helix is a planetary nebula, the glowing gaseous envelope expelled by a dying, Sun-like star. The Helix resembles a simple doughnut shape as seen from Earth, but new evidence suggests that the Helix consists of two gaseous disks nearly perpendicular to each other. This complex structure may be the result of an unseen companion star. This view was created by combing different images taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) in Chile.
